About these articles

The articles on this site look at how shipbuilding and marine projects are planned, contracted and controlled. They are written for people who work on newbuilds, refits, and defence or offshore programmes: planners, project managers, owner's representatives, and anyone who has to read a schedule or a contract and decide what to do next.

Most articles take one practical question and follow it through. How does a newbuilding contract share the risk of delay? What is decided at a Milestone B review? How are hull blocks sequenced so the dock is not held up? Where is a given type of ship actually built, and why there?

Articles are grouped by topic below. If you would rather learn a method in course order, the Lessons section covers planning, scheduling and MS Project step by step. If you have a Microsoft Project file to look at, the free MPP viewer opens it in your browser.
