About this template
A one-sheet Excel master schedule for a newbuild vessel, running from contract effective date to delivery and flag registration. It is meant for yard planners and owner's project teams who need a single-page picture of the whole build, for example at contract stage or before the detailed schedule exists in MS Project or Primavera.
What's inside: a worksheet called "Master Schedule" with a header block for vessel, yard, owner, class society and the Contract Effective Date. The task table has nine columns (WBS, Task Name, Type, Duration in days, Start Date, Finish Date, Predecessor, % Complete, Responsible) and 48 sample rows in eight phases: engineering and design, procurement, steel and hull, outfitting, painting and coating, testing and commissioning, launch and sea trials, and delivery. Seven rows are milestones, including keel laying, launching and delivery. To the right is a 65-week grid drawn with conditional formatting: a pale bar for the planned span, a solid bar for the completed share and a diamond for milestones.
How to use it: type your contract date in the header, which relabels the weekly columns. Replace the sample tasks with your own, then enter a Start Date and Duration on each row; Finish Date is calculated. Update % Complete at each progress review and the solid part of the bar grows with it.
Limits: this is a spreadsheet, not a scheduling engine. The Predecessor column is a text reference, so moving one task does not push its successors, and changing the contract date moves the timeline scale but not the task start dates. There is no critical path or resource levelling. The sample durations are illustrative, not benchmarks for any vessel type.
