About this template
A three-page PDF that takes a newbuild from final preparations at the berth through the trial itself to formal sign-off. It is aimed at the yard's trial coordinator and test engineers, and at owner's representatives who want to know what should be confirmed before the ship leaves the quay.
What's inside: a header for vessel, yard, trial date and sea area, and the weather limit agreed for the trial. Section 1 is a pre-trial checklist of 20 tick-box items in four groups of five: safety (life-saving and fire-fighting equipment, escape routes, crew briefing, weather), machinery (engine pre-start checks, fluid levels, steering gear and thrusters tested at the berth, emergency generator on standby), navigation and communication (lights, radar and ECDIS, VHF and GMDSS, sound signals, compasses) and documentation and attendance (trial programme issued, class and owner attendance confirmed, port clearance, loading condition). Section 2 is a 15-line trial agenda with columns for test, condition, acceptance criteria, duration and result, covering speed runs at several engine loads, fuel consumption, crash stop, turning circle, zig-zag, anchoring, steering gear, thrusters, an endurance run, blackout recovery, noise and vibration, alarms and a man-overboard manoeuvre. Section 3 is a sign-off table for the Master, Chief Engineer, Owner's Representative, Shipyard Representative and Classification Surveyor.
How to use it: align the agenda with the approved sea trial programme and your contract guarantees, close or formally accept every open pre-trial item, record results line by line during the trial, and collect signatures before the ship returns to the yard.
Limits: acceptance criteria refer to "spec" or "contract" rather than stating numbers. The PDF has no fillable fields, so print it or rebuild it in your own format.
