An Excel inspection and test plan (ITP) for a newbuild, with 30 sample inspection points already listed so that QA/QC managers, owner's inspectors and planners can see how a complete ITP is organised from raw material to handover.
What's inside: one worksheet, "ITP", with a header for vessel, yard, class society and contract or hull number, and a key explaining the three inspection levels: W for witness (notified, may attend), H for hold (sign-off required before work continues) and R for review of documents only. The table has ten columns: Item No., Activity / Inspection Item, Reference Standard / Drawing, Acceptance Criteria, a separate level column for each of Yard, Owner and Class, Responsible, Records and Status. The 30 items sit under six headings: steel and hull structure, piping systems, machinery and propulsion, electrical and automation, painting and coating, and sea trial and delivery. Examples include welding procedure qualification, butt weld NDT, tank tightness testing, shaft alignment, insulation resistance testing, blackout recovery, dry film thickness measurement and the speed and fuel consumption trial.
How to use it: replace the generic references ("Class Rules Pt.3", "Maker's Manual") with the exact rule sections, drawings and procedures that apply to your hull. Confirm each W/H/R level with the owner and the class surveyor before production starts, since the agreed level decides who must be notified. Then use the Status column during construction to track open, passed and pending items.
Limits: acceptance criteria are written in general terms and some quote typical values, so they must be replaced by the figures in your class rules and contract specification. The sheet has no formulas, dropdowns or automatic status counts.
